Are You Ready for What’s Next?

Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. It’s the ability to mentally or emotionally recover from a crisis quickly. The question becomes, how does one become resilient? Is it something we are born with or is it trainable?

Evidently, it’s a little of both.  According to psychologist, Susan Kobasa, there are three elements that are essential to building resilience:

  1. Challenge– Resilient people view difficult situations and setbacks as challenges; not as paralyzing events.
  2. Commitment– Resilient people possess a strong sense of commitment. They have a compelling reason to get out of bed in the morning.
  3. Personal Control– Resilient people spend their time and energy focusing on situations and events that they have control over.

If you have high resiliency, that’s great. However, if you are not, there are steps you can take to improve that, but the first step is to understand where you are.  So, take the assessment below to find out how comfortable you are to change and how resilient you are.

Note: If you are a manager, you can also answer the questions considering where your team is on average to determine how able they are for change.
